By: Fred P. Schwally
On October 1, 1994, The Gavel of the Commanding Officers of St. Stanislaus Memorial Post 1771 American Legion was formally exchanged. Edward Johnston was sworn in as Commander for the 19941995 Legion year.
Nicholas Steffanizzi, Sr., who passed away on October 2, 1994 was the Chairman of this affair. As Past Kings County Commander he performed his final duty as a Legionnaire upon swearing in Edward Johnston.
Those guests who attended this affair were treated to the Musical Entertainment of “Lenny And Friends”, and Tina Mann provided the hot diner.
Edward Johnston, who formally held the Commander position from 1991 thru 1993, after being sworn in as Commander, stressed membership and getting involved. The September Carnival which had just been completed was lacking workers on at least three occasions. He stressed that with the largest membership in Kings County, more workers should be available to our Post.
Mr. Johnston also mentioned that younger veterans should be recruited and welcomed into the Post. He then thanked Nicholas Steffanizzi, Sr., for doing such a fine job as, Chairman of the “1994” Installation of Officers, and thanked everyone for attending.
Upon conclusion of this affair, those guests present expressed enjoyment at having attended this important occasion.
