10th Annual Greenpoint Veterans Memorial Parade

This past Sunday May 30 2010 St. Stans Memorial American Legion Post 1771, the Greenpoint Slovak Club, Lexington Council 293, Knights Of Columbus and The Polonia Club sponsored the 10th Annual Greenpoint Veterans Memorial Parade. The parade kicked off at 9A.M. with Mayor Bloomburg and City Controller John Liu and Grand Marshall Pat Sparano leading the marchers.

We had marching units from the Marine Corp, Navy and Coast Guard. There were also a number of Jr. ROTC units, color guards from all the armed service except the Air Force. District 14 marching band, Richmond County Pipe and Drums, Ancient Order of Hibernians Pipe and Drums and Gerritsen Beach Marching Band provided the music.

According to reports in the New York Daily News the parade “drew only a sparse crowd”, I guess the Memorial Day sales were more important to some people.
